CBS got solid ratings from its miniseries "Elvis" on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to overtake ABC and "Desperate Housewives."
ABC averaged a 10.1 rating/17 share for the night, beating the 8.7/15 for CBS. NBC was a fairly distant third at 5.7/10, followed by FOX, 4.6/8, and The WB, 1.5/3.
Among adults 18-49, ABC's 7.1 rating was more than double that of its closest competitor. FOX grabbed second at 3.5, beating CBS' 3.2 and NBC's 3.0. The WB trailed with a 0.9.
CBS easily won the 7 p.m. hour with "60 Minutes," 7.3/15. ABC finished second with "America's Funniest Home Videos," 4.4/9, beating the 4.0/8 for "Dateline" on NBC. "King of the Hill" and "Malcolm in the Middle" averaged 3.1/6 for FOX. A rerun of "Charmed" on The WB barely registered.
"Cold Case," 9.5/16, kept CBS in front among households at 8 p.m., although ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 8.5/15, brought in more total viewers (14.77 million to CBS' 14.6 million). FOX moved up to third with an hour of "The Simpsons," 5.5/9, while "The Contender" was fourth for NBC. A new "Charmed" averaged 2.0/3 for The WB.
At 9 p.m., "Desperate Housewives" scored the night's biggest audience, averaging 15.6/24 and just over 26 million viewers. Part one of "Elvis" delivered a 9.0/14 to CBS, while NBC reclaimed third place with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 7.3/11. "Family Guy," 5.5/8, and "American Dad," 4.8/7, put FOX in fourth. "Steve Harvey's Big Time" trailed for The WB.
"Grey's Anatomy," 11.9/20, kept ABC in the lead at 10 p.m. "Elvis" held steady at 9.0/15 for CBS, and "Crossing Jordan" came in at 7.5/12 for NBC.
